The Sustainable Teaching experience creates a dynamic environment for newer teachers by providing them an online support system of experienced mentors and researchers. In so doing, Sustainable Teaching gives them a safe environment to develop their own principles on teaching and learning under the guidance of skilled mentors and researchers. But this isn't just "generic" help: Sustainable Teaching pairs newer teachers with an experienced mentor in their subject area.
The Sustainable Teaching online classroom experience consists of two courses, taken sequentially: - Creating the Coherent Classroom, a general course for any teacher, regardless of subject matter, that focuses on developing principles about teaching and learning
- A course in a teacher’s subject area (English, science, etc.) that focuses on developing curriculum, lessons and teaching strategies based on these principles.
But the Sustainable Teaching experience does not stop there. It also includes: - Informal online discussions with other teachers and with mentors and, when appropriate, with a neuroscience researcher.
- Ten additional hours (beyond the instructional hours provided in the two courses) of individual access to the mentor for personal support—to discuss actual classroom problems, to sustain the teacher-mentor relationship beyond the completion of the two courses, and to seek advice. (More hours can be purchased if needed.)
- A one-year membership in the Sustainable Teaching Forum, an online community of teachers and researchers collaborating together on improving the quality of education.
